At first I thought this was a kids book but I really think this is a book everyone should read. Its narrated from the perspective of a child which I think conveys the message more impactfully.

I'm currently trying to read this book but...
Can I say something? It's so goddamn boring.
Yes, I know it's an important and deep and meaningful story, I get that and understand it, but like, the story's so boring?
Like, I don't know?
Though I do like Eli's whale story.
I kind of don't like every character.
Like, Subhi is just so mild?
And Queeny, she's...
And Eli (I'm sorry, I forgot his name) is like,
I don't know.
The characters just seem kind of bland and what is the plot?
And I don't know if it's just my copy but I think at around the chapter 33 mark the words didn't have spaces in between them at times?
And the ending was so sudden and really, nothing happened.

A timely story of the hardships and heartaches faced by refugees and those willing and brave enough to befriend them. Beautifully written. It shows that storyteller is indeed a "real" job.

A good book. An important book. I felt for the characters. I felt especially for the main character who was born in the detention centre and wondered where he felt he belonged. To the land his family fled from? To the land his family arrived in? To his tribe who speak a language he barely knows? To the detention centre itself? To the stories he tells?
