Excellent short stories, some of his best, most mature writing. As the title promises, all the stories have dark themes. I like that most of the stories lack a supernatural element and lean more towards real-life horrors.

If you enjoyed the Bill Hodges trilogy then you’ll probably enjoy these.
King says himself in his authors note that this meant to be an incredibly uncomfortable read. He’s not wrong.

Big Driver: very very disturbing short story with details about a rape. Didn’t care for the first part of it but when she was getting her revenge I was shocked to find out about the older brother and the little driver was actually the rapist. Overall I’d give it 3 stars
Fair Extension: quick read and funny! Not a lot of depth to it. And not as dark as big driver. I’ve give this one 5 stars
The Good Marriage: didn’t like this one as much. Maybe because I’ve watched too many crime shows on ID but I felt like it was similar to those. Id give this 3 stars
