This was quite amusing. The added bonus of the audiobook was that some of the sketches were played towards the end of the book.

A wonderful memoir, very nicely (if not beautifully) written, in which John Cleese does two very entertaining and--I think, anyway--intriguing things. First, he tells the story of his life from birth up until the founding of Monty Python's Flying Circus, a story which includes all sorts of wonderful and opinionated asides and observations as Cleese made his way from "middle-middle-lover-middle-class" beginnings through England (and America, and New Zealand) in the 1950s and 1960s. And second, he gives us a portrait of his own very funny, but also very conflicted, often angry, and always inquisitive, doubtful, and reflective mind. John Cleese is a strange man, in every sense of the word, but also, on the basis of this memoir at least, a good one, and very much worth getting to know. (Read more thoughts from me about the book here.)

Very entertaining. Cleese is a great storyteller. The book ends in 1969 though, so I hope he'll do a second part for the other 50 years of his interesting life.

I know it is an autobiography, but it came across as a laundry list of everything he has ever done. At times slightly humorous, but not really all that funny.

A breeze of a biography, rife with humanity and punctured with trademark Cleese humor. It's a rather silly take on the genre as may be expected but don't underestimate the intimacy of this story from a awkward school boy who became one of the most clever men in comedy. My only complaint is that the book seems to end rather abruptly, and I would have been quite content to read another hundred or so pages.

Meh. I prefer his early work.

I enjoyed listening to this book immensely. I think it would have been a fun read but listening to John Cleese read it was very entertaining. I loved listening to him crack up laughing while reading and recalling memories. It was very interesting learning about how Mr. Cleese grew up, his education, and beginning in comedy. Had this been about his whole life it would have been much longer. Rather it is truly his beginning running right up to the first Monty Python episode. The final chapter covers the Python Reunion and was a pleasant wrap up to this portion of John Cleese's life. I will likely pick up more of his bike in the future.
