This was a fun story. There are so many characters to fall love with.  The commentary between them all are silly and witty.  I look forward to the next book. I listened to this on audiobook which was for the most part nice, but the narrator made some cringey and uncomfortable choices for the cat and his gang of street cats that made me skip any future chapters from his point of view.

Exactly what I wanted when I picked this book up. If you are looking for "cozy fantasy" with a healthy dose of found family this definitely delivers! I'm very excited to read the next installment. Side note that this would make an excellent tv series since though it does contain an overarching plot, that's on the back burner a lot and the book is moreso various run ins with others that cause challenges/antics that the main character needs to deal with.

I really enjoyed the humorous parts of this and the side characters. But I think the book was too long. The ending was dragged out too much only for it to end all at once on the last page. One of my least favorite things in books is if all the build up is only for things to be resolved in the last 10 pages. I want way more time than that for the conflict to be resolved before a book ends, and the way this one was done saved it for the very last page. I just really hate that. So we didn’t get to see anything that happened after the characters finally figured everything out.

The story made me laugh several times in the first 20 pages alone which I love. I love the magic of waving broomsticks and lighting candles. I liked Fin already in the beginning, he’s so funny. I loved the scene with the king and his wife, it was so cozy and wholesome. And I love the addition of the cat familiar and the excited little prince., Eric. And I like all of the side characters. After that though, it just wasn’t the same and it wasn’t as enjoyable. It started out like it was setting up to be cozy but then follows that up with bullying and Fin being questioned by everyone. The author just wrote too many of the same scenes of Fin being bullied, questioned, harassed, etc. The way that Fin would handle each scene was exactly the same so it just got too repetitive. I wish the author had written less of the same exact type of scenes so many times.

I love Eric’s personality. I also enjoyed how Fin and Annika’s dynamic shifted and they bonded over both being grumps. I also really enjoyed meeting Kasim. The chapter from the cats pov was so cute! The story is so funny at times which I enjoyed.

I was enjoying the book but was wishing it would start tying everything up sooner. At page 300 I wanted the pacing to become faster. and I still felt that way on page 365, the pacing is just slow and needs to be picked up when there’s only 100 pages left. I just wanted it to be over and to know how it would end faster. I enjoyed all of the funny parts but felt like there hadn’t been any in awhile. It’s rare for me to be that far into a book and all of a sudden not want to pick it up anymore because I’m losing interest. The ending was also ridiculous. I was so annoyed at Fin for not just going after Annika, and then literally everyone else starts telling him the same thing and they talk about it for multiple pages trying to convince him. It would heave been way more enjoyable to read them falling in love and going for it rather than this. It wasn’t enjoyable at all to read their love story after Annika got so mad at him for him not even trying to give their relationship a chance. Before that I liked it but. Maybe it’s because Fin is in his late 20’s and usually a romance would be portrayed by the characters being in a relationship and then later dealing with the conflict of whatever’s keeping them apart. It was so annoying that the author waited until the last few pages for them to finally get together. I know there’s another book after this but I don’t like the fact that we had to wait until page 461 for that and then you have to read the next book to see what happens. If this book had been like 370 pages I would have enjoyed it more and I would be more eager to read the next book. This book didn’t need to be that long especially since it’s slow paced. I know i had a good time with it but the last 100-150 pages were hard to get through and brought my rating down.
