The Mark of Athena

Rick Riordan

4.42 AVERAGE

adventurous medium-paced

Suffers a little from (1) too many POV characters (though it was good to get more time with Annabeth, and Riordan made an interesting choice NOT to have Jason as one of the POVs) (2) Riordan's clunky attempts to write romance. Overall, could have used a little more humor to balance the adventure.

On the bright side, the throwaway John Green joke made me laugh and laugh.

Perfect sequel to the first 2 books in the series.

With the 2 camps joining forces through 7 demigods, this book throws readers into a whole new adventure. Percy, Jason, Annabeth, Leo, and the rest of the gang travel across the sea fighting monsters on land, in the sea and air to Ancient Rome.

Really loved seeing more of Annabeth and her abilities in this novel. Can't wait to see how this teamwork of demigods blossom in the following book!

As I was warned, this book is indeed a cliffhanger. I am so glad I waited for House of Hades to be out before I started it. Thanks for the heads up, Bethany, Ducky, and Ariel! So, this book was enjoyable and exactly what I would expect from Rick Riordan. Fun, light, and fast-paced.

The cover is one of the best things about this book. Just looking at it promises you an intriguing tale is heading your way. You can see Percy on his horse bringing a flood with him and Jason also looking fierce with lightning at his finger tips, ready to battle it out. Immediately you start to wonder if Camp Half blood is at war with Camp Jupiter. And why the symbol of Athena, the owl, is staring right you.
Annabeth takes on a solo quest to find the statue of Athena. I was glad she did it alone without the help of Percy or any of the seven. That would have been cheating, I was onto you Rick. Waiting for Percy or Jason to step in or something.
Also, Nico has been kidnapped by some hilarious twin giants, so the seven have to save Nico and find the statue all in a limited space of time.
P.S be ready for a cliff hanger.
