The book was a little too drawn out. Cutting some parts out would have made it move faster and keep interest up

I can’t recommend this book enough, please pick it up it is the best book I have read in a while. It compares the feminist movement in the US of the 1960s to women turning into dragons in a way that uplifts and inspires while remaining realistic (in its own way) and relevant. The formatting is really interesting because the narration from the main character Alex is broken up with reports on the history and science of dragons in a way that works really well. I loved this book!!!!!!!

I really loved the analogy of the dragons and women’s rights. I had a bit of a rough time with the change in male and female voices at first, but got used to it. I thought the writing was excellent and the main character’s story is heart wrenching and relatable. Setting it in the 1950’s and 1960’s was brilliant in allowing the author to really set the female and male stereotypical dynamics at that time period.

I really liked this book and its read of gender in a patriarchal world, but I can’t get over that it discussed sweeping social change in the 1960s without once discussing race, civil rights leaders, etc.
