The Charm Offensive

This is hands down one of the best romance books I’ve ever read. I loved the mental health representation, I loved Dev and Charlie so so much. I need this book injected in my veins. I was at the 20 percent mark according to my Kindle when I said fuck it and kept reading from 10pm to 2am even though I’m in the middle of exam revisions and can’t function without sleep. I feel more than a little crazy, because I’m spending more and more time upending my sleep schedule to keep reading incredible books. I don’t know if it’s the fact that I’m finally finding the right books for me or if it’s a bad sign for my health and well-being.
An incredible book. It had me feeling all the perfect romance novel feels from giggling at “practise kissing” to going noooo whyyyy at some of what was happening (all while understanding why the characters were acting this way and wanting to hug them both)

First read: So many aces for a non-ace coded book.
Second read: I want a new romance novel that’s good.

Dev believes in fairy tale romance, which is why he’s spent the past six years working on a reality dating show, Ever After. And Dev is good at his job, coaxing performances, crafting swoon worthy moments, and handling difficult situations.

Which is a good thing because the next prince needs a guiding hand.

Charlie is a disgraced tech wizard coming on the show in an attempt to revamp his image. But he’s anxious and stiff, awkward with the women with whom he’s supposed to find love. Charlie doesn’t like to be touched, likes warnings before changes, and doesn’t do well with unexpected things. With OCD and anxiety diagnoses, he’s got a lot working against him in this setting that is fraught with all the things Charlie can’t manage.

But Dev can do this.

Somehow in his desperation to make things work, Dev’s kindness and patience calm Charlie, make him comfortable, ease him into awkward situations.

Except Dev might be falling for Charlie, and Charlie, who never thought he’d find - much less deserve - love, might just be falling, too.

Oh my. I’m not sure I’ve ever read a more charming, gentle book.

The metal health rep, the neurodivergent rep - these things are handled with such gentle kindness and respect - elevating the characters because of their differences and needs instead of in spite of them. Our two leads were incredibly intentional in their interactions with one another. You could feel the love blossoming between them.

Ultimately, this is a book that reminds us that every person is valid and deserves love and to be loved.

I ate this up. All the stars. Charlie is perfect and Dev is a dream.

binged it in a day
Really good mental illness representation, (my favorite thing about the book)
Also it showed the toxic sides/behind the scenes of reality shows which was good, but I still can't believe how people were convinced by them in the first place

Spoiler the sudden turn of events and the ending were too fairy-taley for my taste also it was a bit rushed and unrealistic in the last 20%

Gosh, I never wanted this to end! This could have had 500+ more pages, and I would have continued happily reading it for several more days.

I love Dev and Charlie so much. I love all the representation, I love the real and honest depiction of mental illness, I love the side characters, and I love the reality television setting. This book? Perfection!

I honestly think I need to take a break from contemporary romances for a while because I can't imagine anything living up to this. It set the bar so high!

This one 100% lived up to all of its hype!

emotional funny hopeful

I adored everything about this.  From the Bachelor style TV show (but with CROWNS instead of roses!) to the flawed, fabulous main characters.  Loved watching the two of them navigate feelings to find their happy ever after!
