You would’ve thought that the first female editor of a U.K. newspaper would be better known, except you know that she wouldn’t be because history doesn’t like women who step above their station.

This biography tracks the history of Rachel Beer, her family and her later life. It’s a solidly historical book, told linearly. It was a little dull at times, with a lot of attention paid to the family history of her and her husband, but it’s a nice introduction to a fascinating woman!
