The StoryGraph questions work really well for the majority of fiction books, but they aren’t great for nonfiction, and they also kinda don’t help with this book either

If you want a deep dive into nerdy medieval church thought and controversies, but make it kinda sorta Sherlock Holmes? This is the book for you. Except it’s more depressing than Sherlock Holmes. Also, did I mention it’s a deep dive into ecclesiastical controversies of the high Middle Ages? Yeah. That. It is.

books like this make you wonder about the part that you play in the narrative, especially when the narrative is buried several layers deep. i felt like a 14th century monk myself filling the margins with annotations and translations. eco is so insanely clever. what a book!!!!!!!!

I realised I had been reading a description of a door for 3 entire pages and it showed no sign of ending.

I've seen the movie twice as well as reading this and I still couldn't tell you half the shit that happens because it's so dense. I really enjoyed it though! I want to be a monk now...
