Forging Zero

Depressing book about depression and horrible, literal torture of children..

An exciting and fast-paced sci-fi adventure, I found The Legend of Zero to be quite the page-turner. It was well-told, but I did have trouble taking it entirely seriously...I just kept flashing back to [b:Bill, the Galactic Hero|64430|Bill, the Galactic Hero (Bill, #1)|Harry Harrison|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1170623007s/64430.jpg|1398409].

Also, be cautioned: I see this classified by some readers as young adult fiction. I would be very wary of sharing it with a reader younger than about 13 or 14. A major part of the plot deals with young children (mostly ages 5-12) being stolen from their parents and forced to become soldiers for aliens. There are episodes of brutal violence, rapes, and deaths throughout, including major characters.

Pulp sci-fi with a few scattered scenes that were entertaining but overall not worth your time. Not interested enough to get the next book.

I enjoyed this book, but I don't think I will continue the series. I can't put my finger on it, but the last few chapters had me rushing to get the book over. Would I recommend it? Yes.

Worth reading

Interesting blend of new concepts and tradition. Well developed characters and a solid story line. Impressed with the author, will read more.

Couldn't put this one down. I would rate it 4.5 stars. Definitely has elements of Hunger Games and Maze Runner but some things too - the Alien invader culture is really well developed. Still deciding if suitable for my 11 year old - the violence and rape elements are not super explicit but .... Probably recommend waiting til 8th grade atleast.

Great idea but flawed execution. Great diversity of physically non-anthropomorphic aliens that somehow talk and act EXACTLY like every Hollywood version of bootcamp ever created.

I loved this book! It was pretty epic and had me not wanting to put the book down (rather my Kindle). It's one of those books where I felt sad that I reached the end of the book.

This is one of those rare books that capture your attention right from the start. The characters continue to grow throughout the book and it is difficult to put the book down at the end. Outstanding read and I would recommend it to others interested in the sci-fi genre.
