TLDR: It's not Brother Cadfael, it's a police procedural written in 1960. Interesting, in many ways.

I am really enjoying the way Ellis Peters writes family dynamics. The grace & respect that each family member has for each of the others is such a nice change from the more common way families are written.
I liked the mystery, but WHERE'S PUSSY!? She and Dom were thick as thieves in the first book, and she doesn't even get a mention in this one? Tragic. Also, hilarious that this time Dom falls for a girl named Kitty. I was more invested in the intrigue of the painted sign than the murder mystery, mostly because the deceased seemed to have had it coming.
Audiobook narrator Simon Prebble is excellent. I left the speed at 1.2x, which is my usual speed for library books.

It's not like Brother Cadfael but a vintage look at a teenage boy's infatuation. A keen eye on village life during the early 50s.
I was most familiar with this author's Brother Cadfael mysteries and enjoyed this book just as much. I think what I liked the most was that the Inspector's son assisted in solving the mystery and trying to clear the name of his crush. It was a fun and exciting book.
I got some light Agatha Christie feels, but not quite. I liked this one better than the Brother Cadfael series. In the end it was just a simple whodunnit, nothing too weird or clever. A light pick, just to pass time.

I read this because I have really enjoyed the Cadfael series by this same author. I imagine this was a charming series when it was written but it is just very dated now. Kind of like going back and reading the old Perry Mason books. Don’t know that I will get into more of these.

BOT, so-so story. I love Ellis Peters' Brother Cadfael series and thought I'd give her Inspector Felles series a try. Not great, not bad. Simon Prebble is the narrator and that saved it.
