Apples, who would have thought. This book is hefty, but engrossing so the size wasn't so bad. I will admit, I normally won't finish a book with too many political views or "woke" issues, just not my thing, BUT I enjoyed this story so much that I was able to put my thoughts on those topics aside and keep reading.
What kept me reading was the infamous apple, ancient magic, cults and the actual horrific scenes throughout the book.
This one sought after apple turns an entire community into cult like addicts who will do anything for their leaders love. Families torn apart, friends turned against each other. Dark magic bleeding through an apple orchard. I won't look at apple picking the same.
My first read by Chuck Wendig, but won't be my last.

I eat an apple every afternoon, and now, I think I'm gonna need a break for a while.
I wanted to love this, but in the end it was very long and just didn’t keep me engaged in the way I had hoped.

MY 200TH BOOK READ IN 2023!
“BRO” is certainly a strange but intriguing dark fantasy that does get a bit overfilling the more you bite into it. The story centers on a mysterious orchard of apples in the town of Harrow that are so addictive once you eat one and they’ll soon change the townspeople from good to bad.
Wendig’s writing really was, for most of the novel, very thrilling and lively as it definitely was like reading a Stephen King novel. Its plot line centering on mysterious apples was tantalizing and interesting. My few complaints would be that it was a bit long and the dialogue of some of the characters does get a bit annoying. In the end, it’s still a pretty juicy read. A- (91%/Excellent)

Dude. I’m going to say it…..NOONE reminds me of Stephen King when I read horror. So many reviewers make that comparison and it never holds up…until now. That’s all I can say. This was the weirdest creepiest most imaginitively weird horror book I’ve read since being introduced to the former. SO. GOOD.

For some reason, the characters in this and their ill-advised actions put me off at the beginning of the book. But, it slowly pulled me in, weaving its roots into my brain, as it were. Wendig's pacing is similar to Stephen King - the first half of the book is the slow, methodical climb of the story-building rollercoaster at the start of the ride, and by the second half, you are white knuckling the book covers as you hurtle towards what seems like it will be a fiery crash.
