4.5 stars. I really enjoy this author’s writing, even though it rides REALLY close to the erotica boundary. Honestly, it would be erotica except for the complex story surrounding the sex. And this story was long and detailed and complex and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
My only issue with it is that it is female lead POV only and I deeply enjoy dual POV. The story is well written and edited, and an emotional roller coaster - I nearly cried towards the end because the character emotions were so well expressed. And I also appreciate that each story is genuinely self-contained, though far more enjoyable if you’ve read the others in the series.

We’re back on The Orc Mountain and things are as interesting as they always are. Gwynn, midwife, versed in all things herbs, betrothed to a rakish follower of her equally rakish father who both seem intent on controlling her life. As the only daughter of The Lord of their land certain things are expected of Gwynn and she bears the weight of her rejection and responsibilities heavily. An inheritance gives her a chance to live her life away from Roy-and her father at least until they drag her back home, but when an Orc comes crashing through her door with an ulterior motive her life starts to change swiftly and dramatically. He’s just like Roy and her dad, but is he. Joarr of Clan Butaal is equally troubled by his lineage and his standings as well…along with some other issues, but there is definitely something between the two. Gwynn’s life is changing again as she becomes more involved on the mountain as midwife and more. This book is not what I was expecting, it was MORE! It’s something about the Orcs that make the actual human men look like the beasts in these books. #chefskiss
