Loved this! This might be my favorite in the series so far. The relationship felt so different from the other books. In the first four books, the start of the relationships felt much more accidental and the women were in a place of confusion for such a big portion of the story. In this book, Gwyn and Joarr's relationship felt like a partnership, where Gwyn had a lot of agency. I also appreciated the way Fenn approached the self-harm part of the story line; it was very thoughtfully written, filled with the desperation that people who self-harm feel, and with compassion for that pain.

I just got bored and didn't really care how it ended
This is my favorite one. They had the best dynamic, and actual chemistry they had fun together, laughed and played and the lies were always kind of there so it was less of a knife in the heart like all these other orcs. Also it was nice for an orc to give the woman plenty of oral for once instead of the other way. I love Joarr.
And her dad wasn't just a stereotypical evil man, he did actually care. Just spoiled and misguided

Finley Fenn has done it again!
We are once again brought into her richly built world of Orc Mountain and it’s nearby human communities. This time with Joarr determined to prove himself, and Gwyn a midwife, desperately trying to carve out an independent life for herself.
What I love is that we are five books into this series and yet each one is unique. We are introduced to a whole new side of orc mountain and it’s politics, as well as the impact of the laws has on the woman left pregnant with orc babies. Gwyn’s father helped to pass a law that humiliate’s the women who are left pregnant by orcs, women that Gwyn cares for. Gwyn also struggles with her mental health and has developed unhealthy ways of coping.
Joarr is a scout for the orcs, spying in the shadows to collect information to try and protect the orca in Orc Mountain. He is passionate about mushrooms, which works well with Gwyn’s passion for plants.
The characters have to work out their issues both as individuals but also together. There is angst and be mindful to read the trigger warnings at the beginning, as you will be made to feel and the feelings in this book. My children found me crying over this book at one point over these characters!!
The world building by in this series is rich to the point you could swear you could feel the grass beneath your feet, and see the sky in the garden in the mountain.
And of course there are the magnificent sex scenes! I am a discerning romance reader, I like my sex scenes but they must be well written and essential to the plot. And that is what Finley Fenn always delivers. A good sexy book with well written characters and an plot that leaves you turning page after page, because you must know how it all ends.
