This is such a lovely, inspiring biography of an ordinary person. Jose Alberto Gutierrez is a Colombian trash collector who turns discarded books into a library for local children. The book book encourages young readers to do good for others and celebrates little deeds that have big impacts. The artwork is stunning and references several well known books.

Lovely and inspirational. To learn that there are only 19 libraries in Bogotá, Colombia... and that this fantastic gentleman rescued discarded books to give them a second life in the eager hands of local children excited to devour new stories.

This book is just gorgeous. How can it not be when it’s about a wonderful man who collects books from the trash to form a public library for his town and is illustrated by Paola Escobar?

A must have for the child who loves books and the adults who love books.

Lovely book that parallels Jose, the garbage man who started a library built mainly from books he found in his work (the true story) and a boy Jose who looks forward to visiting that library every Saturday and bringing home a new book to dream about.

Lots of Spanish words in the text make it more local to Bogata, and the illustrations are detailed and serve the story well.
