Rounding this up to 4 stars, took me an awful long time to finish or even get into. Sometimes I was a little bit confused of what was going on, in detail, or who was who bc of the different names for each character (found the "character list" and word explanations only after reading, would I have found them earlier it might have been less confusing(one of the disadvantages of eBooks)). But it does have some interesting world building and some enjoyable characters and some twist and turns that I did not foresee.
Will be checking out the second one sometime.

I loved this book! The further I read, the more it sucked me in (that's what she said). It's gruesome, it's funny, it's thrilling. And this is the first fight scene I've ever read that involves only women and there's no mention of asses, breasts, lips, or flowing locks of hair - FINALLY!!

DID NOT FINISH

DNF

Okay, wow, no, I do not vibe with this book at all. I expected something different. Granted, I dnfed this pretty early on because already the beginning wasn't really it for me. I know why I normally don't read sci-fi because I find the settings very difficult to imagine and the same happened here. Also you tell me, Gideon tried to flee from there eighty-seventh, 87, times and still fails to the point where all the characters she meets on the way out are just like "Really, you try that again?" Idk. Where these characters "attempt" to stop her, I found it was so sloppily done. Harrow's try to persuade her to go to meeting first before leaving at least made sense, for then Gideon would have a bit of a headstart if she was seen right before leaving for good, she might not be missed so early.
Idk, I struggled with the world building a lot and the story couldn't pull me in. There are too many other books to read that might capture my attention better than this one did.
