I don’t know what to say about this book apart from the fact that is was really very good. It’s one of the books that makes you aware of the immense joy of just physically reading…..,,
The whole concept of a chapter a year was fantastically done,, I found myself smiling frequently at Dexter and Emma’s conversations, and unable to put the book down in the sadder parts, pushing in through that heavy chest feeling because i had to know how it would resolve ., IDK what else to say it was just a really really good book,, the kind that makes u feel melancholy once you’ve finished (did i mention that book was good)

I would have rated it slightly higher but i’m mad that emma died and i’m annoyed that he ended up with maddy

This book begins in Edinburgh in 1988 with Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew. They have just graduated from Ediburgh University. They have very different ideas about what they want to do after graduation. Dexter wants to travel the world, while Emma isn't sure what she wants from her post graduate life. The chapters are modelled so that they are set on the anniversary of the day they met - 15 July. Overall, this was a really lighthearted book which I will definitely be reading again in the future. A truly beautiful book about two people who have known each other for 20 years as they battle work, relationships and being an adult.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I loved how the characters were portrayed, and how you really got to know them throughout their lives; to see them grow/develop as well as seeing them struggle. I think the book was very well written and the characters as well as the story felt real to me. Sometimes I could not stand Dexter but I still enjoyed his part of the story. I think it was nice that this book was written from both their perspectives. The plot was a bit abrupt for me, but at the same time I did like the last chapters of the book and it helped me to understand their relationship a bit better. Overall, I felt like I was immersed with their love story and wanted to keep reading so I would recommend this book. However, I am very new to the romance genre so I do not have many romance books to compare it to.
