I was really pumped up for this because I absolutely LOVED Cackle when I read it earlier this year. So vampires and Rachel Harrison? Sign me up!
So I did really enjoy this but from time to time Sloane just kinda annoyed me and she seemed to have the best or smartest opinions during the middle of the book.
I liked the ending because it definitely wasn’t what I was expecting but I still enjoyed it!

This book is the physical embodiment of a nothing burger. The characters are bland, the plot barely exists, and although the settings and descriptions were often vivid, there was nothing tethering me to that world to make me care about it.
So Thirsty is the blandest, weakest vampire story I have had the displeasure of encountering, forcing us to attempt to care about Sloane, her predictably failing relationship, her predictably impulsive best friend Naomi, and the exciting vampires she encounters. Naomi takes Sloane out of town to celebrate Sloane’s birthday, and then chaos kind of happens, but then a lot of nothing happens. There were moments of tension between Sloane and another character but she was so obnoxious that it was impossible to feel anything for them. And despite being lifelong besties, and women in their thirties, Sloane and Naomi seem to genuinely hate each other and it made so much of this story a chore to slog through because they acted like teenagers.
There were so many moments when something interesting could have happened, but the choices the characters made were so stupid and pointless that it all fell flat. Sloane was given a chance of pleasure and excitement that is standard with vampire stories and she spent so much time whining and sulking that everything felt squandered. I don’t escape to the world of books to listen to whiny, boring white women and their boring lives, but if you’re into that, it’s none of my business. How does it end? No idea. I have blissfully written it off and I do not care to remember.
After this experience, I am seriously considering skipping other books by this author, which is a shame because I see people give her a lot of praise. But this was just bland and awful in ways I cannot forgive. It gets 2 stars because I bothered to finish it, and there were moments of ridiculous chaos that I enjoyed, but good grief were they fleeting.

I started this book right after I turned 36, which was a fun connection, as Sloane also turns 36 right at the start. This is my 2nd book by this author and I'm sensing a theme with her characters that I do like. They're a bit messy, and definitely haven't got things in order. I also liked the friendship between Sloane and Naomi as it felt believable, and the dream mall was cute. But that's kind of where the fun stops for me. The vampires were overly cliché, the romance with Henry cringey and reminiscent of Twilight, while the plot was clunky and didn't flow for me. I expected it to be a fun lighthearted read for the season that's in it, and there were some decent horror moments, but ultimately it all fell a bit flat sadly.
This was definitely an odd book, but I really liked it! Helped me escape to a different world!
