This is the second time I'm reading it. The first time i read it was 4 years ago when it was fan-translated and oh boy it opened up a whole new world for me. That's why this book will always have a special place in my heart.
But unfortunately though i don't love it as much as the first time i read it......... it was kind of a drag to read sometimes especially the last volume. DOES NOT MEAN IT'S BAD IT'S JUST PERSONAL TASTE.
I guess my tastes change and that's fine. MDZS will always have a special place in my heart. Maybe in the next few years I'll decide to reread it again and have a different opinion about it

Volume 4 had a really ... Not great smut scene, but it's practically literature compared to what happened her. I can't say for sure that this is the worst smut I've ever read, but it's definitely up there. Between the issues with consent (which I think is probably common for the genre; it certainly was in Japanese manga once upon a time), to self-lubricating assholes, to.... Literally not changing positions once in an hour (which honestly sounds like one of the most boring experienced I can imagine) it's not great.

But I enjoyed everything that didn't involve sex, more or less. Slightly less than half of this novel I'd the main story, and then the rest is made up of bonus chapters and stories, many of which I enjoyed a lot, or found very cute.

Like I said in my review of volume 1, these books are not *good.* But they are fun, and I enjoyed reading them with my friend.

Needs more Lan Xichen content.

This story and these characters have my whole heart. Probably my favorite relationship ever across all books, movies, TV, etc. The world building, the characters(all of them!), the plot, the fantasy elements- everything is just so amazing. This is the final book of five and it ended perfectly. I cannot explain how much I love every version of this story- the books, the TV show (The Untamed), the donghua, and the manhua. I devoured this book in one day. If you are curious about Chinese fantasy/xianxia give this series a try ♥️

I spent way too much of this book going "Are you an IDIOT?!" Once even out loud. We have fully returned to the present and have begun the conclusion to the story. I love how even missing some of the information, Wei Wuxian & Lan Wangji were still able to put together what happened fairly easily and quickly. Do not go in unprepared. The final eight short stories have a lot of spice. One is damn near just porn. I loved the conclusion and how everything was resolved. Now to read Heaven Official's Blessing.
