This was such a clever book and what an amazing adventure! It is a book about asking questions gaining knowledge and searching for the truth in everything. As a librarian myself, I found it extremely admirable that Lenora was willing to do anything to help people find the knowledge that they were looking for. It also delves into the darkness of those that want to leave people in the dark without knowledge. Knowledge is power, knowledge is strength, and knowledge is a light.

I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

This was a fun story with a fantastic concept that appealed to a younger me immensely---finding a secret magical library and getting to work there? Yes, please! Lenora learns lots of new facts for her new library patrons and goes on a mini-adventure for each fact. My only complaint was that the story felt a little disjointed (the facts that Lenora learns don't have anything to do with each other) and I didn't feel a lot of connection to the MC or a sense of her feelings--there were really no stakes until about 70% into the book. I loved the message that the book portrayed about the importance of the quest for knowledge--once I knew what Lenora was up against and why, I was more engaged with the story; I just wish it had happened a little sooner. Still, kids who love to learn about the world will get sucked into Lenora's fun and imaginative quests.

My library has this classified as Junior (lower grades I think) but I really couldn't work out who this book was aimed at. I also found it very disjointed.

This was so wholesome and fun and clever! I really really enjoyed this and I think I should really open up my heart to middle grade books.

I didn't find the poor-little-rich-girl trope of the frame story to be an engaging beginning, but it was just a minor point I could ignore it, because I really enjoyed the rollicking scrape-to-scrape adventure of the rest of the book. Loved the twist at the end and looking forward to more. The main reason I didn't give it a four is that I think the whole light against the darkness metaphor was beaten to death. There is a passage or two right in the middle that feels way too much like a soapbox speech. I even agree with the author's opinions, but I still found it off-putting in a way that took me right out of the story. I think it could have been much more subtle and kids would get the message. That being said, I look forward to reading the rest of the series, and I may rethink my rating then.

A child librarian hops from department to department in an enchanted library, solving a hodgepodge of problems along the way. First, the positives, this is an extremely creative book with plenty of fun factoids interspersed. It really got my 9-year-old’s imagination going. And I love the premise that a world of adventure awaits you in the library. But - this book was way too all-over-the-place for me. Every chapter hopped from one crazy scenario to the next without much cohesiveness. As a result, there wasn’t much room for character building. The nonstop random adventures left my head spinning. To be fair, it all tied together a little bit at the end, but the jarring, ever changing adventure quests still felt rushed and jumbled. I think it was trying to do too much in the adventure department and not enough character building.

3.5 ★★★ ⯨ Pertinent. Imaginative. Adventurous. The Library of Ever combines TNT's The Librarian's mission to protect knowledge with a bad guy straight out of Meet the Robinsons. Chockfull of fun facts about varied topics, Lenora is any kid's best friend - smart, helpful, kind, and resourceful.
Though the story quickly jumps from one task to the next without much premise (or a very convincing antagonist) one can't help but root for Lenora in all her mini adventures & escapades. Not so patiently awaiting the next chapter after the abrupt cliffhanger.
