Could be half as long. Annoyed with the ending. Sticking around for Robin and Cormoran.

Best Cormoran Strike novel yet! This one is centered on a creepy cult which shares a lot characteristics of real life cults like Scientology and the Moonies/Unification Church. Loved the pace —which really galloped along. And of course I loved the tension between our favorite private investigators, Cormoran and Robin!

I enjoyed this for the most part but for a book so long the rapid unravelling of the truth towards the end makes the key twists barely comprehensible. It’s certainly not the kind of clever reveal from earlier books. Too many characters to keep track of. As ever the most interesting aspect, and in truth the reason I still read these books, is the ongoing will-they-won’t-they storyline of Robin and Strike, which develops nicely here.

3.5/5

Best in the series, despite the length JKR is finally in her element in this one. The fear, anxiety and the claustrophobia at the cult was very very well done.

Strike and Robin bring a cult to justice.

Best one yet!!

Always love the “strike” books. It was long but I couldn’t wait until they connecting all the mysteries. The only thing I wasn’t fond of was the I Ching sayings in the beginning of each chapter.
