Strike's hairy arse. Didn't read past it. Didn't need to
Rowling has become too fond of her own voice. Long winded content adding nothing to the story. Needs a new editor

Galbraith/Rowling keeps delivering the hits with this old-school-meets-modern-problems detective series. She has keen insight into human nature and what drives us, at our cores, to do things (both good and bad, and sometimes in-between).
I was thrilled to know this installment involved a religious cult, a subject I find inherently fascinating. It provides a playground for exploring emotional and psychological extremes, and Rowling delves deep into the minds of another colorful, vivid cast of characters here.
Her strength in plotting, sub-plotting, and sub-sub-plotting is also on display in this volume. I was extremely impressed by the complexities of this plot, and wondered often how Rowling mapped it all out. Obviously Rowling is most well-known for Harry Potter, but her imagination was on full display here as well. She had to invent an entire religion, it's precepts, prophets, history, mythology, secrets, rumors, etc. I was blown away!
Our main characters develop well in this installment, too. Much happens in their personal lives, and the will-they-won't-they develops DELICIOUSLY. I absolutely adore Cormoran and Robin, and I am eagerly awaiting the next installment. Hopefully Galbraith doesn't keep me waiting too long!

I liked the other books as well, besides the last one. But this one, I couldn't stop reading it. It had me in it's grip.
This book is really long winded. I skipped the chapters about Robin.
A great read. It's a fast and cunning mystery. I love these books by Rowling, have read them all and I'd say one of the better ones in the series. Yes, I could complain about details and moan about the repetitive things (the book is almost a 1.000 pages, please remind me why Robin is cross, why Cormoran is distracted), or I could point out that the style is not very literary (thank GOD it isn't, it kept me awake for hours this week, which helped me finish is within a few days, otherwise I'd be reading this book for weeks to come), or that there is just too much (yes, there is).
But I don't feel that way, this is what is great to read when you're off on your Christmas holidays, or when you have some free time on your hands, or when you're just looking for something imaginative that helps you forget about a lot of the shit that everybody has to deal with in real live.
Loved it.

I like the way Rowling writes, I like the way she's not afraid to make her main character a bit of a jerk, I like the way her strong female character is willing to tell her business partner no and to do dangerous things. But I will also say this particular book was a bit of a slog and could have been tightened up. (Also I noticed actual typos in the print book, which is very sad to see in a book from a major author published by a big publisher.)
The author conveniently puts Robin undercover for much of the book so she doesn't have to deal with the tension and unspoken words between Robin and Strike. There is a cliffhanger-y ending; maybe something will happen between them in book 8. (But we've been saying that for several books.) Still, I was very happy to learn more about office manager Pat. Could use more of that with other agency employees in the next book.
Whenever I read about cults, I think about a friend in college whose sister was in a cult. His parents asked the minister of the Presbyterian church for help, and he attended a recruitment meeting. I remember saying to him that I'd be nervous about attending a meeting and he said, "You should be. I was." And this man was not only a Christian minister but 6' 8" tall.

A book of nearly 1000 pages and I could've kept going! I need more - that ENDING!!!! This was one of my favorite books of the series, and I spent nearly half of it extremely stressed out due to the subject matter. I could barely sleep.
Not many writers have the ability to create a plot and characters that can sustain a book this long, but this series is incredible. Each book has me desperate for more.
When is #8 coming out?! Lol
