My reviews for the last two books mentioned that about 100 pages could have been cut without hurting the plot. I do not feel that way about this book. (With the exception of the entire character of Ryan Murphy, who has very little personality/function beyond "handsome plot device to keep Strike and Robin apart"). In fact, part of me wanted more. I wanted to see more of Midge, Shah, and Barclay and the team dynamics. I'm glad we saw more of Pat in this book.
This has been my favorite mystery of all of Strike books, I think. The psychology behind cults it is interesting, and to see Robin in that environment kept me on the edge of my seat. It kept me guessing.
I do wonder how many more books until Strike really gets into his mother's death. I've been waiting for that book for ages!

Out of all of the Cormoran Strike novels this has to be my favorite one! The character development was amazing! When the book started to wrap up I thought I had a pretty good grasp on how the case was going to end, only for it to be far from the truth. Loved the ending and can't wait for book 8 to come out.

I confidently imagined that (although I've read the previous parts in Finnish) I was perfectly competent to read this one in English. I also (quite foolishly) imagined that since I've been reading a lot of fantasy in English lately, it'd be easy peasy. Newsflash: it was not, I'm most definitely not fluent in any of the British accents.
And storywise: this one was dark and stirred quite bit of anxiety on my side, but it was very nicely cooked. And oh the cliffhanger at the end!!!
