This book was so great. It was painful to read in parts but for all the right reasons. I fell in love with Marcelo. I felt strong connections to all the characters whether I loved or hated them. At points I can't believe this is YA. A lot to think about.

Oh, it's been awhile since I've loved a book like I loved this one. I love Marcelo and how aware he is about who he is. It's so interesting to get inside the head of a kid on the Autism Spectrum, and it's a compelling story with great characters. Yes yes yes!

Fantastic! This is a story told through the voice of Marcelo, a teenaged boy with Asperger's. It delves into important topics that all of humanity deals with at one point or another, such as, determining the authenticity of our actions, understanding the consequences of the choices we make, an understanding of the complexity of humanity, and the nature of relationships- both friendships and romantic relationships. Marcelo is a character that is relatable in the questions he asks and unique in the way that he thinks about things. This is an incredibly well-written book!

A smooth page turner.

Maybe I'd have liked this more if I'd read it, instead of listened to it. As an audio, at least, the pacing dragged and some of the conversations on faith (and other topics) seemed overly long and didactic.

I can see the appeal to certain teens, but I wouldn't think this would be the all-around favorite it seems to have been on the awards circuit. It's just not for everybody, I guess.

I really enjoyed the voice of the main character in this book. It was intriguing to see the world from the narrator's perspective. The author created situations where common questions about the autism spectrum could be answered without making the reader feel less for having those questions or awkward for being curious about the answers. There were parts of the story that didn't really seem to fit. It seemed like the ending tried to very quickly tie everything up into a neat bow when it may have been better if it was left more open ended.

I've had this book on my shelf for awhile. I got it a couple years ago for signing up for the summer reading program at my library. While it seemed interesting, it just didn't appeal to me. So it sat on my shelf collecting dust...until now.

Marcelo in the Real World was an okay book. I liked it, but I didn't love it. The characters were enjoyable, for the most part. I absolutely hated Wendell though. I seriously want to throw him off a cliff. And I loved the message that this book had. That being said, it just didn't blow me away.

Such a powerful novel. Review forthcoming.

Beautifully written book. Found this very easy to read and it's not just about a summer job, but growing up and making hard decisions.
