Lisa Wingate has a great way of making a reader think about what is important in life. Great character development and an encouraging story.

I really liked this. I don't think I could read a bunch of books by this author in a row, because they are just too sweet and "inspirational". I enjoy them every once in awhile, but feel that her books are all quite similar.

What a book to open so soon after the deadly tornado(s) in Moore, Oklahoma!

I have had this book sitting on my bookshelf since March 2006 when it caught my eye at a HalfPrice Books because it was written by Lisa Wingate and I had like Tending Roses. I had no idea what it was about (or that it is the first sequel in the Tending Roses series!) and I was pleasantly surprised. It is about unexpected trials coming in the midst of long term struggles and while this may seem tragic as it happens, what we do in these unforeseen moments can reveal more to us about ourselves than almost anything else--making us look at our lives with different eyes and often helping us view our continual long term problems with new possibilities for change.

I know I learn and grow through my trials, but it is nice to have that perspective put back in my mind through a very pleasant book.

I am hopeful about Jenilee's future.

The town of Poetry reminds me of the town of Rose in "The Scent of Rain and Lightning."

I love the wall of photos and documents Jenilee creates in the shelter.

Nice book about a useless girl who finds something useful to do.

Improbably optimistic but that just makes it an even better read in these troublous times. Tornado damage in the small town of Poetry (quite a name!) brings people together. Old wounds are healed; new friends are made; a brighter future for our heroine Jennilee.

Folksy

I like these books but sometimes they’re a little “folksy”. Lots of “morals” and country talk that feels overdone. But for the most part good.
