Another great read at the start of the year!

The title portrays it as a book about a mentally ill woman who turned vegetarian, but it is so, so much more.
From discussing different ways someone can handle abuse to what it means to be a good mother, this book really makes you realize how different each person is and how differently we operate.
The blurb definitely doesn’t do it justice.

This book managed to disturb me with the dog scene; beware that there is animal abuse in it.

A 5 star read! It is a hard book to recommend to someone, but a definite must read!

Books that receive prizes such as this one all have one thing in common for me: they leave me feeling relieved it is over. Mostly it is because the cerebral masturbation required to hang on till the very last line is taxing to the extreme. In this case, I felt like that for 2/3dhs of the book.
from the flower
onwards it picks up in pacing and I could stand reading it, though I did almost give up in the beginning.
I didn't find a Y of the characters particularly compelling, except for the developments in the last chapter that finally gave the older sister some substance. Reading this was like eating a never ending bowl of porridge. Sure, it's food. But at some point I just want to eat something else that I might enjoy.

This book drops us into a bleak life and world that you wish was completely fictional, but you know is too many women’s reality. It is a hard read but having people to talk to helps to work through it and find meaning in a book filled with dread.

Not complicated to read in terms of overall length, sentences or vocabulary.  However, the themes are quite dark and there are many episodes of abuse, rape, mental illness and indifference.
