This was an interesting book to say the least... I did like it tho, which feels a bit weird to say considering what some of the topics are.

I liked the other book I have read by this author, human acts, a bit more than this one. And I'm definitely going to be reading their other books!

Highly recommend but do look up the themes discussed in this book first, because some of them can be very triggering to read.

Disturbing, odd, I was especially furious about the men leaving his wife Yong-hye behind, not acknowledging her work until she stops doing it, than leaving her even if she needed him most after her mental breakdown, the most uncomfortable I felt after reading a book, not really in a good way as most detailed described scenes left me feeling disturbed

I had bought a copy of this book a few years back because of a recommendation online, but never got around to it until I eventually got rid of it. Then Han Kang won the Nobel Prize for Literature and I figured I’d give it a try. However, this is not a book I would recommend to many people. It is difficult to understand and I still haven’t figured out most of the messages it’s trying to convey. I think it lacks a certain substance that people can connect with. There are, of course, the bigger ideas of vegetarianism and eating disorders, but not many people will understand what it’s trying to say because of the way it’s told. I hate any male perspective we got and fought to understand what they added to the story. I’m not going to dismiss Han Kang as an author I’d enjoy. I’m definitely gonna try something else of hers, but I’ll be a bit more selective of the content before I do. I feel like she has much better work!

The husbands ain’t shit and sisters are the BACKBONE of our society. I would have rated this higher had the men been less prevalent in the story and focused on the sisters alone.
