Wow!!! Didn't see that coming. The first 3/4 of the book have you trying to figure out where all the pieces fit and wondering if it's a little scattered. A lot of potential for loose ends. BUT, North does a great job of bringing it all together and tying up every loose end left dangling. I would recommend this to anybody who enjoys a good thriller.

I am so confused. I don't know if it had something to do with the narrator, who I struggled to pay attention to, or the book itself.

I really struggled to follow each storyline and see how they connected to one another. Then the timeline jumped around, and I got thoroughly lost.

Someone was murdered at the beginning, right after he fired his entire staff. Another person was brutally attacked some years before, he survived the attack and is now estranged from his family. His sister is married with a child, and the children at the girl's school see someone watching them in a car, which is somehow related to the brother, maybe, or something else? Then there are the detectives who are looking into the murder, it's their storyline that brings it all together.

Expect, I didn't follow how it was all connected.

All that said, I am very much in the minority with this review, but if you find yourself struggling to follow along, just know you aren't alone.

Thanks to NetGalley I got an arc of the audio version, if this hadn't been an arc I would have DNF'd 33% in.

I found this book quite confusing, maybe because I was only half listening half the time, but the ending was good as was the character development.

Do you believe in free will or that the paths we take in life are predetermined? These notions are the predominant theme of Alex North's latest novel, The Angel Maker.

I must admit I was slightly unsettled all throughout reading this book. That's obviously a good thing when you're reading a suspenseful thriller! The villain of the tale believed his actions were preordained by God. I thought it was so creepy he used that as an excuse for his vile crimes.

There are many characters and you follow all their points of view. But I never felt lost or confused. Everyone's stories came together perfectly. The pacing and connections made meant that I absolutely had to devour the story and I was left feeling satisfied but still unsettled.

I recommend going in without knowing anything and get ready to have your mind blown. Five stars for this spooky and intriguing thriller!

Thank you Celadon Books and NetGalley for the e-ARC.

I was a little disappointed in the Angel Maker. There was so much hype about this book I think I set my expectations to high. Although it had suspenseful moments, I found myself lost and confused. The jumping back and forth. The twists. I had to go back and read certain sections again to follow the story completely. Although disappointed in this book, I won’t be swayed from reading more of Alex North’s books.
