Solid crime/thriller book. Nothing groundbreaking or too shocking in terms of plot but it still had good reveals and enough tension to keep me going

I think I might have hiped this book up in my mind a little too much. I had highly anticipated it after Whisper Man, and after reading it, I am a little disappointed. Very well written and great ending, but the story its self fell a little flat and dragged on in several spots.
I loved the idea and the plot. I have vivid lucid dreams, and the idea that I could connect with someone in those is fascinating. I feel that what might have brought this book down from a five star to a three was the switching of characters. I preferred reading Paul's point of view over Amanda's narrative side. Maybe if the entire book were written in one form instead of two, it would have flowed a little better.

A lot of it did not make much sense.. like Charlie didn’t he have any sort of family!
The only thing I liked was the mother-son relationship

This was a good. Book. Sad. Less supernatural than The Whisper Man. Total spoilers:
The killer is the father from the newest child killed. In the end, he kills himself in the woods after failing to deal with Paul and find Charlie's remains. Jenny is the one killed by Charlie (not James as we're led to believe) who, in turn, was killed by James when Charlie attacked James' mom. Charlies body was in the attic the whole time. James and Charlie were unknown half brothers. It was just really sad.

Dark and twisty, didn't go where I expected it to go, really enjoyed it.

The only reason it’s getting 3, is because I genuinely felt creeped out at points (especially listening while I walk in the dark in the mornings alone). Otherwise it was just meh for me.
