I enjoyed the beginning, but the story snowballed somewhere I wasn't expecting. Leaving the ending feeling super rushed.

It was a little strange but not bad? It was definitely an interesting concept I just don't think I connected to the characters very well

I was really hyped for this book, so I think my expectations were too high.
The overall idea and setting were great, and parts of the book around the beginning and end in particular really shone.
But most of the middle felt like a bit of a slog. Honestly, 100 pages could have probably been cut out midway and it ultimately wouldn't have changed the story too drastically.
Also, around the 300 page mark the characters emotions towards eachother are hard to keep a track of. I like you, I hate you, I'm mad at you, now I like you again and so on. Of course theres nothing wrong with uncertainty and angst, but it was so back and forth for such a long time it got pretty tedious.
I did really like the setting and mythology, which drew me to this book in the first place. I think if anything, I would've liked to see even more! More mythological beings, rather than just a Gumiho and Dokkaebi. Even more Korean references and locations visited rather than the characters pretty much convulsing for most of the book.
I suppose I wish the book had been 300 pages rather than 400 to really condense the story and make every encounter and event seem important and relevent.

The plotline was exactly how a Kdrama would pan out to be and I loved it so much. The pacing was perfect and the relationships the characters had were surprisingly complex. It was great to see a realistic view on how the events would pan out after all the action as well  Kat Cho's writing is captivating and enticing
