I think I could read this book every year from now until the day I die and still be fascinated by it. And get more out of it each time.

This book is an insanely beautiful masterpiece - just taking off one star for the torment of reading about all that pedophilia and incest.

Equal parts a rich tapestry of a place, time and feeling, and sweeping encapsulation of the highs and lows of humanity

Think I would have gotten more out of it if I knew Spanish and read it in Spanish! The magical realism is amazing

I don’t even know what to say about this book other than I loved it. It’s incredibly complex with extended metaphors regarding the culture and history of Latin America told in an almost fairy tale like structure. Amazing.

I appreciate what the author has done with this book. It is beautifully written, at times, in ways I did not expect. I wanted to like it. However, it was a slog in many places.
