the premise was good, writing was good. the interactions between the characters felt very real but the main character kind of irritated me at points. it was definitely very slow going at the beginning but the ending is worth it

A very cute, funny, uplifting romcom!! Very much enjoyed the cast of characters, British humor, and concept of queer communal living! Although, to be fair, I do think my enjoyment of this story was boosted A LOT by how lovely the audiobook narrator was.

this was a very cute read! sapphic friends to lovers, queer community building, finding yourself in your twenties — the works!! i wish i’d had more of everything though, it felt a bit surface level which is fine for quick read so i still liked it but was left wishing there had been more. i particularly wish we had more reason to root for ray and el, more interactions that would’ve made it obvious to at least the reader that there was something there. but all in all i liked this!

I think I just had a hard time because I would think the narrative was trying to lead me down one path and then it would lead me down a different one entirely. Still, I liked the country queers vibes and it was overall enjoyable. I honestly think the book would have been better without the romance. It really feels like the B plot, which makes categorizing it as a romance novel a bit unrealistic.
I have to admit I also thought Ray was kind of a jerk and I thought that's what we were supposed to think so I was surprised when they end up together even tho Ray is very shallow and uncommitted.
Graphic: Alcohol
Moderate: Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Bullying
