So bad
Just not good at all
The writing was not good
I did not like it
So emo when I realized it was all different authors
And I was excited by the idea of it
Thought it could have potential
But no
What the let down

from his chest to his cum gutters—

When the dial tone rings down my ear canal,
Like hello what ear canal? C gutters?

they’d see me move with a speed that is comical for an old man like me
(He’s 30)

I had a great time with the first half of this book, watching Zev in his cycles of drug abuse and harming himself and the unaddressed trauma. I think it was written very well and brought me very close to the character.
Enter Black Diamond Resort and Spa, obviously the highlight of this series, I loved the therapy scenes.

It all went downhill for me from there, unfortunately. Firstly I was unable to grasp the fact that his dad, who I'm positive knows Zev is gay, sends him to an island with a gay married bodyguard. Gavin has been with his husband for A DECADE, and i felt uncomfortable with the cheating in this book too.

I remember this one point in the book where Gavin is breaking up with his husband and he says, "I just couldn't resist him"
IMAGINE YOUR PARTNER OF 10 YEARS SAYING THAT.
I don't care what the conditions were, it just feels wrong.

Spice wasn't my favourite, but it was fine.

The DD/lb dynamic was okay, true to what you'd expect. I just don't think it was for me, although I have enjoyed age gap MM before.

I would be interested to check out this author's other works but this one's a maybe for me.

4.5 stars

See i LOATHE the cheating trope when its MF but when its MM idk it just hits sooo much more different !! The scenes wow, the writing amazing. Marie Ann is a new writer ive found this year and ive loved every single one of their books!

DID NOT FINISH: 52%

it had a cheating trope. i mean, it was not between the two main characters, but one of them (gavin) cheated on his husband (milo) with the other main character (zebryn). yes, gavin was married to milo even before he met zebryn, so technically, he indeed cheated. and i am going to emphasize that the book was poorly written. the lines made me grimace, as did the narrations and descriptions. i hate it all.

Right, I’m struggling on how to rate this one… I really enjoyed (if that’s the right word) the first third of the book, getting to know Zev and the trauma of his life - he’s the son of a millionaire, an addict and has seen his mother take her own life in front of him. He is broken and watching him spiral was so sad - you could feel the visceral emotions. I was expecting this book to be an uplifting path to Zev’s happiness and recovery, and it was in a way, but I just didn’t overly enjoy the path to get there.

What I didn’t enjoy was the general feeling of Zev’s entire sudden dependence on Gavin. He went from a broken, yet defiant young guy, to someone who needed his Daddy with him to do something as mundane as peeing. Also, this kid is healing from a genuine trauma and his hired bodyguard is making moves? No. Also the therapist at Black Diamond knew all about Zev’s relationship with Gavin (a married man) and didn’t say anything? Even encouraged it? Idk man, if this was real life I think that therapist would get struck off.

I also felt so bad for Gavin’s husband Milo… he just didn’t deserve that.

So anyway, the first third of the book was looking like a 5* read for me, but the more it went on, the more I just stopped feeling it. I think this series has been really hit-or-miss for me and this one was probably one of the misses…

This is what DD/lb is all about! Comfort and support and strength and sometimes even doing things for each other that maybe the other person doesn't like or want but you do it anyway because it's what he needs. And then ya know, the spice is off the charts as always

Was a dnf for me couldn't relate to characters. Didn't feel the chemistry making me not want to complete the story.
