29 year old me enjoyed this. 15 year old me would’ve been obsessed. Love the magic of this book, a quick and cute read. “Grief is just amputated love”

I have always loved this book, and tbh it has got to a point where it has become a part of my heart. A perfect tangle of fairy tales, nightingales, woodland witches, lighthouses and grieving families, this is the perfect middle grade for the end of the summer.

Set in 1919 Henry and her family have moved to Hope House for a new start after the death of her older brother Robert. Her mother is ill and her father is away on business, so it is up to Henry to hold her family together. The doctor wants to take Henry's mother away he says she's too ill to be on her own, and as a result he also wants to take her younger sister Piglet away with him to be better cared for. He worries too that Henry is having her own illness, but Henry knows the woman she's seen in the woods is real. Henry works hard to keep her family together but will it be enough?
This book was very well written and has the vibe of being written in the time period it was written in. But I found it really sad, the ending was eventually happy but most of the book is wrapped up in a very young girl trying to save her mother from her grief and an 'evil' doctor who wants her committed.
