The Half of It

Madison Beer

4.04 AVERAGE

I really enjoyed it. I always liked her music but I wasn’t a super fan or anything. But hearing her story, I was kind of angry for her and how she was treated for normal human mistakes and how adults didn’t protect her from some awful shit when she was a minor. I also enjoyed the emphasis on mental health and the fact that she used sources to back up her points to give true relative information. Trigger warning for sexual assault and suicidal thoughts. I’ve gone through some of the same things she’s gone through (not to the level she has) but still. I think like a lot of female celebrities, she deserves an apology for how awfully she was treated especially as a teenager. But highly recommend even if you don’t listen to her music. She gives some really good perspective on issues and also has journal prompts throughout which I liked.

I am not familiar with Madison Beer but I heard her on a podcast I listen to where she discussed her childhood trauma. There are aspects of her memoir that I can definitely relate to and her ability to discuss these topics makes me hold a great deal of respect for her. Definitely recommend just know parts can be triggering.

this is definitely directed at fans of madison as there’s a lot of context lacking about certain situations, with the expectation that the reader already knows what happened.

although as a fan I already knew of most of the situations mentioned, this memoir did dive deeper into how they affected madison mentally which was very interesting to read and I now have even more respect for her than I already did.

however, I feel like it only scratched the surface on madisons life. I went into this memoir eager to know more about who madison is beneath the fame and whilst this was partially done through her very bravely opening up about her mental health struggles, I would’ve loved to know more about her personality, and the memories that shaped it.

I related to this memoir more than I thought I would. It made me realize many things and I am so glad I read this. I don't have much to say on it but I did enjoy this book a lot, and really recommend it for anyone who is struggling
