When I started this book, I knew it would be centered around mental health and Madison's struggles. I've been her fan for a while now, but I wasn't really aware of a lot of things that happened in her life.
A lot of times the book took my heart and ripped it out of my chest, specially because I listened to the audiobook, which is narrated by her, and hearing the emotion in her voice telling her story even made me tear up a few times. She went through so much, and listening to the beautiful way she writes and the hope and goodness she still keeps in her heart is so inspiring.
It is a book that just feels so genuine, and with very few pages, she manages to convey her story in a beautiful way and making you connect and relate to her, while keeping boundaries not to tell what she doesn't want to discuss. It's a book as introspective, delicate and dreamy as Madison's music, and I feel very proud of her because of how the way she taught herself to look at life.
All in all, The Half of It is a beautiful memoir that I feel inspires you to keep going even when things get difficult, to love your life for what it is, to take care of yourself and, specially, forgive your past self and comfort your inner child.
