The Half of It

Madison Beer

4.04 AVERAGE

emotional hopeful informative inspiring sad fast-paced

This is a quick read and Madison Beer opens up about a lot of vulnerable, difficult moments in her life. Though it felt like she was writing this book directly to her fans who already know her whole backstory, and since I have not followed her entire career trajectory, there were a lot of gaps that needed more context.

I also felt like the book started to get a bit repetitive in the second half when she talked about dealing with online hate. I don't want to minimize her experience, though, because internet hate campaigns are absolutely brutal. At the end of the day she was only 23 when she wrote this memoir and had already experienced more in that short time than some people do by old age, so I commend her for taking a risk and putting her story out there.

I saw a review of this one ( but I don’t remember who’s) so put it on hold even though I really didn’t know anything about Madison.

This was heartbreaking. She was so young when she first in the spotlight and experienced the dark side of fame.

I was really impressed with her honesty in this memoir and how at such a young age she has already taken time to reflect  and to seek help with her mental health.

I don’t rate memoirs but if I had to this would be 5⭐️ it started a bit shaky but had me bawling all throughout. The sheer vulnerability Madison showed throughout this book was astounding and listening to the music she made because of these experiences while reading about them was an incredible experience. I thought I knew her as much as I knew any celebrity but she shared so many things in such open and inspirational ways. The addition of journal prompts and speaking about personal fan experiences added so much and I cannot believe that she is as young as she is and has been through that much. This was eye opening to say the least.
