4/5 stars - As much as I love Crouch's weaving infinite timelines and science fiction concepts, his larger concepts on the human experience are what kept me reading this book. I think I had a little bit of brain fog reading the second half, but did enjoy this story and especially some of those stand-out quotes that are Crouch essentials.

“The Hudson comes from a pond in the Adirondacks called Lake Tear of the Clouds. They went there one summer and Meghan was eight or nine. Camped in the spruce trees. Watched the stars fall. Tried to wrap their minds around the notion that this tiny mountain lake was the source of the Hudson.”

I consider Recursion to be equal parts sci-fi and thriller. In this book, the author grapples with the concepts of time, memory, and what makes reality. I thought this book was well-written and I was interested in the premise. Basically, a NYC detective is trying to understand an emerging condition, known as False Memory Syndrome, where people remember entire alternative histories of their lives that seemingly never happened. I liked this concept and the sci-fi vibes, but I thought it was a little repetitive, especially so towards the end. I was also surprised how much the thought of losing memories and being unsure of reality upset me to read
