Reread/Relisten: April 2023

New rating of a 3.5 haha

I think this time around i enjoyed the relationship and characters more than i did first time i read it.

now on to book 2. I am rereading these because [b:Scout|60695502|Scout (Chosen Champions, #4)|Macy Blake|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1677668145l/60695502._SY75_.jpg|95685981], just came out on audio the other day.

I read this because I wanted an audiobook I haven’t listened too, but I have only read the “Chosen One” series, and I didn’t even finish that because I started to not like some of the main characters.

This can be read on its own but it does have a cameo from some characters from “Sweet Nothings”, Scout who is from there, but also the whole pack. I kinda remember them but not so much haha

I don’t know if felt like there was something missing from this book, but I did enjoy Baileys character. I think maybe having some more backstory on the characters would have made me enjoy it more. Like we saw Baileys parents once but ehh felt like they popped in and then left.

Also Randy was creepy.

I am debating on continuing the series, I see that people enjoy book two more than this, but still.. not sure.

Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Could have maybe done with less time dedicated to what were something like training montages, but I get why they needed to be there.

This is pretty classically a human being a paranormal mate romance, setting up the group we’re going to be following through the series and all the characters, plus an underlining mystery plot that wrapped the whole thing up.

Trigger warning for sexual assault/rape, on and off page

I’m up to a point in the universe that I’m not sure I can really be all that subjective. Did I like it because I liked the book, or because it’s a part of the universe, and the little cameo and the little pop up from the past that is so great. However, it wasn’t my fav of the series, it was still a great read and an amazing start to a new series and I’m looking forward to seeing where it’s going.

End note: coming from someone who hasn’t read the Hellhound Champions, I do believe you can read this series without reading any of the other series in this world. The thing is, you won’t really understand HOW we got here, so if you’ve not read anything in this world here are the books, I think you need to have read before going into this story:

Sweet Nothings
All kidding Aside & Stop Kidding Around
Hell Breaks Loose.

However, read them first, you might not understand who a few characters are and there’s a nice little surprise but all in all I don’t think you need to read it to get the story as it is, you might just be a little lost on the world.

DNF at 35% - Listen, I give first books in a series a longer chance knowing they're usually clunky, but the info dumps and the weird pacing coupled with vague explanations on this killed me.

The book also started with a note from the author that said something along the lines of "this is part of a bigger series world and though you don't need to read the others to understand this, it is recommended you start at the beginning". And the beginning is like...15 books before, so no thanks. It felt a bit misleading because this book, failed to set the world, the characters, the overall world conflict, in a way that was understandable to a reader just coming into the series.

I really enjoyed this! I liked that Logan took his time (relatively) with Bailey. It was funny with a touch of danger and action. While you don’t have to read the previous series first, I do recommend it so you know who the side characters are.

Overall this was enjoyable, while it's not one of the best books in the chosen one universe, it was enough to make me choose to read the other books in the chosen champions series.

This is a solid addition to the Chosen Universe. If you like the others, you'll like this one too. If you haven't already read the Macy Blake books set in this universe, I would recommend reading those first. They give some general background on how the universe, shifting, magic, etc. work, and it means you get to delight in seeing old characters pop in for cameos. The first book is Sweet Nothings, and the full list in chronological order can be found on the author's website at macyblake.com/series/chosen-universe

Thanks Macy for another wonderful book in the realm/universe/world you have created.

Bailey is adorable and clueless and Logan is a perfect Alpha who doesnt wanna be an Alpha for reasons we find out throughout the book.

The Oracle is an interesting touch and I would continue reading solely to find out who this was but you know the book is great so lots of reasons to keep reading this series.

I would say this could NOT be read as a stand alone and you would need to have read other books in this world.

This is the first book in the Chosen Champions series and what a wonderful ride it is.

Bailey is a very caring and sweet human who has no idea that there’s another world within his world. Circumstances bring Alpha wolf shifter Logan into his orbit and the attraction is instant and strong but they don’t jump headfirst into the steamy, heated part of the relationship. That all happens after a few more interactions where they get to know each other a bit better.

Logan and Bailey both bring a fantastic cast of side characters into the mix and it certainly helps keep things interesting and engaging. The plot line had me turning the pages eagerly wanting more and had me guessing the identity of the protagonist until the big reveal. I really enjoyed the balance between the romance and the plot which is all held together with great pacing, great characters and some laugh out loud moments.
Definitely looking forward to the next instalment in the series.

Good start to a new spin off series. It’s hard to review it as I don’t want to let anything slip that happens.

I liked it but it did take me longer to engage with this story and I’m not sure why. I really liked Logan and Bailey together. They worked well and I liked that Logan gave Bailey time when he needed it.

I adored Bailey’s friends and how they were treated by the pack. They looked out for him even when he didn’t understand the depths of their friendship group. I also liked the pack and their interesting with Bailey and his friends. I can’t believe that even though I’d read who’s books were next, I never clicked who Scout was, it just didn’t correlate in my mind.

I enjoyed the storyline and didn’t pick the bad guy until it was revealed. I really like how this one resolves, it was different than anticipated.

Looking forward to continuing on to Gideon’s story
