Super cute! I’m not usually a fan of autobiographies because I don’t want to hear how bad people are that I’ve always loved, so it’s nice to know Neil Patrick Harris is still a great person. Of course anybody that makes their autobiography a Choose Your Own Adventure has to be.
\(^o^)/ so much fun! Now I have to watch all the award show numbers and also rewatch Dr. Horrible.
Good book but the audio format didn't work due to the choose your own adventure aspect. I will probably read the print book at some point to see what I think of that.
I'm not quite convinced that I read all of the stories, which is one of the reasons I always struggled with choose your own adventure books when I was a kid. However, there were enough interesting stories to keep me interested and I appreciate NPH's unique take on a memoir.
Quirky, insightful, and not at all self-indulgent (unlike many autobiographies. Self-deprecating is more like it. ) And the Choose Your Own Adventure method is interesting - it works well on Kindle, and you can (usually) spot the red herrings.
Kungaloosh!

Did I pick up this book with the hope that it would be funny, witty, brilliant and oftentimes heartfelt and sad? Yes, I definitely did. Were my expectations met? HELL YES, and then some.
NPH is one of those celebrities with such an amazing, extensive resumé that you can't help but feel like he's actually a total, stuck up d-bag in real life but the reality is that he really isn't. This whole book is filled with stories only the super rich, 1% would relate to (see: hanging out with Elton John in his luxury mansion, spending the night alone in a haunted castle, hosting every awards show ever, getting the VIP treatment at Disney parks, a week-long luxury scavenger hunt... etc) and yet every crazy story is met with nothing but awe and humbleness. Neil is just a cool dude. So cool, in fact that this autobiography is a choose-your-own style adventure filled with (multiple) dead-end death scenes, drink/food recipes, magic tricks, cartoons, secret pages, interviews with himself, and chapters written by the likes of Nathan Fillion, Sarah Silverman, Perez Hilton and Barney Stinson (!) himself among others. There's also a surprising amount of shit-talk of now irrelevant celebrities who happened to be jerks to him as a child actor and behind-the-scenes info on putting together award shows, Broadway musicals and living a closeted gay life in the '90's and early 2000's.
I had the pleasure of being front row at Neil's Circus Awesomeus show at Just for Laughs in Montreal over the summer and left the theatre completely convinced that he's actually 100% magic (seriously) and while I was expecting this book to humanize him a little for me, it just made me more convinced that he's actually an alien from a planet in outer space where every single life form is actually perfect as well as talented/good at everything.
Also, for those asking, you can definitely read this book from front to back if you don't wanna miss anything (the chapters are mostly in chronological order) but give the choose-your-own adventure a shot a least once first because it's surprisingly fun.

What a great idea for an autobiography! You basically choose the way you want to go through NPH's life, which events you want to live through. The more important stories, like the one about having kids, come up almost any path you take. Others are more hidden. There are exactly 4 stories that I couldn't find by following the story; I had to flip through every page until I found them.
I definitely learned about NPH. A very enjoyable read.
