Hilarious.

This was a different read for sure! I would definitely recommend checking this one out as a physical book to get the true Choose Your Own Adventure experience. But, once got used to the audio format I really enjoyed learning more about NPH and found parts to be laugh out loud funny and also heart warmingly loving as he describes his relationship with David and his children.

Added bonus- magic tricks and cocktail recipes Especially if you are an NPH fan (and really, who isn't?!) check out this fun take on his autobiography!

fun

This book was so awesome that my head exploded. Totally worth the messy cleanup.

This may have been the most fun I've ever had reading an autobiography or memoir. I loved the choose your own adventure books as a kid and I've loved NPH since I saw him on Doogie Hoswer.

My original plan was to read this book through a few times choosing different paths and then I was going to read it through like a normal book (many reviews say this is possible). I read through a few times and had some good laughs and then I was ready to do the regular reading.

This proved to be a problem.

I didn't make it far into the book before I got to the end of a section and instead of just turning the page, I wanted to skip head to see where each option would have taken me. This lead me to want to keep jumping around as you do and I ended up choosing three more adventures.

The book is too munch fun to read in any other way!

The book covers Neil's childhood and his introduction to both acting and magic. These two passions great influence Neil's life and you can have a lot of fun bouncing around these themes. Some of the other story lines follows his relationship with David and becoming parents. They were so secretive (and with good reason) about the birth of the twins it was nice to hear about how it all came to happen. I really enjoyed hearing about the twins and how much they are like their fathers.

Some of my favorite passages were:
The section edited by David.
The section about the Harold and Kumar movies.
The fake endings were all hilarious
The notes from his famous friends.

I received this book from the Blogging for Books program in exchange for this review.

Popsugar Reading Challenge Prompt: A choose-your-own-adventure book

I enjoyed it, but I felt like I wanted... more. It almost felt like NPH was hiding behind the "choose your own adventure" device.

I went into this book completely biased. I love NPH. I loved him on How I Met Your Mother, I adore watching him host award shows, and I smile every time he shares a picture of his family on social media. I expected to love this book, and I absolutely did.

I listened to this on audiobook, so I didn’t get to enjoy the “choose your own adventure” aspect of the story. The trade off was that I heard Neil narrating his own story. His sarcasm and wit made me laugh out loud at times, and this was the perfect story to make boring household chores seem to go by in an instant.

I enjoy celebrity memoirs that show both the personal and professional side of a celebrity’s life. This book had the perfect balance, and I never felt like a story was unnecessary. I don’t usually reread/listen again to these types of memoirs, but this is one I could see myself listening to again and again.

I was in such a horrible reading slump and just really needed something to get me out of it. This book was exactly what I needed.

Now I will confess, I'm not super savvy on NPH. I've seen "Dr. Horrible", "Batman: Under the Red Hood" (he voiced Nightwing), and have been a fan of his family Halloween photographs. (I assure you, I will be watching "Doogie Howser" and "HIMYM" soon.)

This book, in case you aren't aware, is an autobiography, but it's also styled off of "Choose Your Own Adventure" books, which means that some parts of the book are completely fake (and I assure you, you will know when they are fake). The chapters are short, and at the end of the chapter, you have the option to go to a different page to continue the story however you want. (Oh, and it's told in second person, of course, so you are NPH. It's very amusing.)

Even though it's supposed to be a "choose your own adventure", I wanted to make sure I actually read everything, so I just read the book straight through. There were a few things I read out of order/context, but it worked out okay. If anything, it just made it even funnier since I really wasn't sure what was going on. It didn't hinder my understanding of the story though.

This book was funny, and sweet when it needed to be. It was more inappropriate than I was expecting (so, fair warning if talk of sex, especially gay sex, makes you uncomfortable) but still funny. The tidbits about his life with David were absolutely adorable (they are seriously ruining the sanctity of marriage with their perfect marriage).

Overall, a very enjoyable, quick read. Definitely the pick-me-up I needed to get out of my reading slump.

pretty much exactly as entertaining as you think it will probably be. i died early on at the hands of joss whedon, and the magic tricks made my eyes glass over, but i kept finding myself returning to this, in-between other books i was reading, to see what else NPH had to offer. perfect book club selection.
