I loved everything about this story! I took me 15 days to get through because it's a physical book but I loved every minute that I was reading it. I'm glad it was recommended to me and I'm glad I got to read it now. I'm also glad it is now part of my library. I hope to be able to share this book with my niece and nephews. Totally worth buying and reading and keeping as well.

Middle grade fans might enjoy this book, as well as anyone who like reading about fairies and magical creatures. I completely recommend it!

This was such a sweet story! I loved the characters and the magical feel. However, the introduction felt too long which mad the relosution feel very rushed.

I was drawn to this by the beautiful cover and ended up buying them all in the end. Another YA story full of magic, fairies, fai, ghosts and imps. An adventure. I absolutely loved it. Another easy read that could easily be read in one setting, a lovely ending.
Stella lives with her ghost nan, an imp and her cat but she wants a 'normal' life. She gets herself enrolled in the local school, makes friends and is enjoying life. Until she realises she is part of an old story/myth. One that still needs sorting/fixing and that is exactly what she is going to do. She is one brave, strong and adventurous girl but it won't be as easy as she thinks.
A brilliant story. A well deserved four stars from me. Highly recommend. I cant wait to read all this authors other stories. I love finding new authors.

A coming-of-age adventure story, mixed with fairy-tale creatures and magic. I did enjoy this book, and I loved the fun little map at the beginning, the two small written paragraphs were cute ("Daybreak" and "Nightfall"), and creature descriptions with Top trumps styled categories that were mixed in-between the chapters. However, given that this is a middle-grade book, I didn't enjoy as much as I would have liked. If I had read this when I was younger, I probably would have enjoyed it more.

I do love the children’s fantasy genre. From being brought up to the tales of Narnia and Harry Potter, I’ve read many stories of magic and distant lands. The quality varies but yet being able to disappear into one of these magic worlds is the best cure for the stressed world we all live in.

Amy Wilson is getting a name for writing eloquent and dreamy books that resonate with young and old alike. This book is no different. Starting with a girl, Stella, who lives on the edge of Winterspell with an imp called Peg and a ghost granny, you immediately are whisked into this intriguing book. Stella has never been to school and now at twelve, she decides she wants to go. Her Gran and Peg don’t want her to, but her stubborn streak comes out and she goes off to school in the nearby town. Here she meets and makes friends with Yanny and Zara.

This book is great fun to read and yet a decent story. The magic isn’t full on, which is great as it adds to the suspense that builds up. Stella, the main protagonist, is a head strong girl who loves her family and is strong enough to stand up to them when she feels it’s the right time. She’s a great character who has compassion and anger in equal measure flowing through her veins.

The story has great pace and the excellent writing by Amy Wilson shines through. This is a high class children’s book and a great model for any adult wanting to write fantasy for the age. Description is right on point, without going to long wordy paragraphs that adult fantasy goes.

This should be on the shortlist of any book awards list in the next year. Highly recommended to all young people. A refreshing book that stand out from the crowd.

This book was sent for a fair and honest review by the author via NetGallery . The resulting review is my honest thoughts after reading the book.

A great and whimsical middle grade full of magic and an incredible plot line.

The characters were wonderful and I absolutely adored Zara, Yanny and Stella as they battled their way through shadows and larked more about the mysterious Shadow King that lives in the creepy forest. Their friendship was so sweet it made me so happy to see them grow and get a better understanding of each other.

The story to was great, structured around the classic trope of the lost prince but managed to do it in a unique and wonderful way. The use of magic in the story was cool and I loved how it ended too. It was simply, magical.

The writing was also great and perfect for the story, allowing it to make the story even better.

This was a wonderful and magical tale, I loved it!
