4.5 stars, rounded up. I have to say I was really intimidated going in, I assumed it would be really long and dense and difficult to read. While I do have a few quibbles, it was ultimately much more engaging and entertaining than I thought it’d be. A solid start to an incredibly influential series, I look forward to seeing the world and the characters developed further.

Absolutely gorgeous writing and breathtaking descriptions. This book is very different from the tv show especially after the midway point, however, I really enjoy both adaptations for very different reasons. The book had a slower pace but each chapter had something interesting happening. It was well paced for thick it is and wasn't difficult to get into.
I did listen to the remade audiobook narrated by Rosamund Pike, a brilliant performance, her narration really brought the characters to life for me. Her voice is so soothing and her voice acting is amazing, I love the voice she gave Loial. However, because of the length of the audiobook I did listen to it at a quickened speed usually 1.3x but I did find myself dragging out finishing this book because of how much time I've had to dedicate to it. It doesn't help that I also started it over at one point too. The one other thing I want to say is while the ending of the book was cool I do wish the fight scenes had lasted longer and was a bit more intricate.
I'm glad to have finally read this book and am excited to read the next one.

I recently re-read The Eye of the World. It had been 8 years since I first read it, and I thought it would be fun to go back through the series in preparation for the final volume in the Wheel of Time series coming out in 2012. Incidentally, this is the first time in my adult life that I've read a novel twice. I actually think I enjoyed the book more now than I did on my first reading.

If you love The Lord of The Rings, be it in book or film format, then expect to enjoy The Eye of The World. Yes, it is the first novel in a series (which must be read IN ORDER). No, it is not a Tolkein rip-off. While some might consider it to be sacrilegious for me to say this, I prefer Jordan over Tolkein. I have recommended this book to many people in the years since first reading it. Unfortunately only one person I have recommended it to has actually finished the book. Hooray for him! For everyone else - its their loss!

I might be a bit biased because of my obsession with Rosamund Pike, but wow! That was a stellar narration. Made the incredibly slow bits of the book bearable.
