Saw a local production and it blew me away. Fantastic script.

One of the nicest things about reading plays aloud over video chat these last few months is that we ('we' being 'whoever has turned up of a Wednesday') tend to pause between scenes, officially to reassign roles but also, less officially, to unpack whatever happened in a scene and sometimes make predictions about what's to come. That's probably not ideal for Intimate Apparel, in which scenes are meant to flow seamlessly together, but it sometimes makes me think about interactions or lines or characters in ways I might not have otherwise.
Anyway—this one's all a mix of class and race and microaggressions and hope and expectations and personality filtered through other people. Not my favourite play to group-read so far, but perhaps the smartest and most interesting, and the one I'm most likely to recommend that others read on their own.
