This is such a sweet, happy book. My queer joy looks a lot like reading a YA novel with a MC who is an adorable, 17-year-old, fat dyke who 1) likes her body, 2) is a total fashion diva, and 3) gets to star in a romance.
Cassandra Morris's narration of the audiobook is wonderful.

YA really, really isn't for me, but I don't give up on trying because I loved the Fat Angie trilogy so much, and there are some New Adult books that appeal to me a little more. I guess this book stopped me because I'm tired of the fashionista fat girl who encounters a cool "goth" girl and the fat girl just does not feel like a grown up and she does all these awkward things that are, like, OMG, so embarrassing. I would have loved this novel when I was a teen. I am not a teen, so I don't relate to it at all, nor do the "hard" situations seem as hard to me as an adult as they would have seemed when I was the main character's age.
It didn’t blow me away, but it was cute and relatable, her relationship with her mom and how it affects how she sees herself and how she thinks other people see her was spot on in my opinion. 3.5 stars.

I am not ashamed to admit that I was wary of this book because the premise seemed too twee. Plus I kept thinking that Jordi was the main character and I didn't understand how Jax fit into the story. But now I am a multi-shipper: Jordi and Abby, Abby and Jax, Abby and Maliah, etc. etc. All of the main characters are just the right amount of adorable and quirk. I also think that Spalding nails first love and teenage anxiety. Be warned: Abby is hella anxious, but very realistic. I wouldn't mind a sequel.
