Man, this was a heavy and heartbreaking read. I knew that going in, granted I feel like every Kristin Hannah book should have that warning label, but Night Road still hit me with “staying up till midnight and contemplating my life” feels. The lessons on parenthood, forgiveness, vulnerability, grief, etc. were provoking and sparked a lot of internal conversation. I also loved the dual perspectives captured throughout the book, the nuanced view of it all was another important life lesson of “there’s always two sides to a story”.

What I didn’t love was the ending. With so much grief and loss, trauma and history, the ending felt unrealistic and out of touch with real life. You’re telling me that after 300+ pages of intense grief and pain, it can end with a healed and happy family over the span of just a couple of days? I wish life worked like that, but sadly the ending just felt too kumbaya and unrealistic.
