Geschreven in zeer mooi eenvoudig Frans, en een mooie stijl. Geschreven vanuit het kind (in zijn jeugd). Misschien meer een boek over de jeugd en een land, dan over de oorlog.

Un livre lu après en avoir vu la critique par un ami dans Le Devoir (et que Simon me l'ait aussi conseillé). Une belle lecture, un peu en dehors de ce que je lis habituellement, ça a été très rafraîchissant pour moi de lire en français, mais pas en québécois. L'histoire parle tout de même d'un sujet bien sensible, et m'a en fait permis d'en apprendre un peu plus sur la guerre au Burundi et au Rwanda, mais ça ne fait qu'être effleuré. On reste tout de même plus sur le récit de l'enfance du narrateur et son amour des livres.

This book started out pretty slow for me and it was hard to connect with the narrator. It didn't really pick up until about midway through the book. The ending was good but it felt as though it was left hanging a bit. Overall a good book and an important one but could be better.
