I can't do this anymore. This is so fucking boring I'd rather sit and watch the sun rise and set in real time than enduring one more page. I'd be more entertained watching my toenails grow than reading another line.
This book has an endless string of 5 star, glowing reviews. Some of them are by other authors which I always distrust as a rule (they're buddies after all); I could care less what Maggie Stiefvater and Robin Hobb have to say. But the reviews I read from my most trusted reviewers made me want to read the book ASAP.
I pushed myself into liking it; it is well-written and--shockers! original.
It is also so, so damn boring.
So fucking boring.

Screw you, book. I'm going home.

This was fine. I don't know that I'd recommend it. The plot itself was intriguing and I pushed through it. I'm not a big romantasy girly and the romance aspect was so so so forced and unnatural feeling to me. It felt like the plot took one too many side quests.

Well... this happened.

I bought this book last year on a whim and I've been putting off reading it ever since because I'm an idiot. A friend insisted that I should make this my first read of the year and here I am now, with no heart left at all. Uprooted has many flaws: it has a slow pace, it's cliched, the protagonist is annoying AS FUCK. But it's also fantasy at its finest.

It has that vibe of classic fairy tale with elements such as an evil wood, the menacing tower with the wizard, the quest to the capital... It has all that elements mixed in with a uniqueness in the narrative that makes this story very engaging and entertaining. This is certainly one of those books that I wish had a second instalment, or at least 50 more pages .

5/5 for prose, atmospheric vibe & audio narrator. The Wood was the best part of the book.

0/5 for the amount of times The Dragon is mentioned- yet there is no dragons.

The “Romance” (if you could even call it that) was secondary & sidelined by the plot. Her skirts were a part of the story way too many times.

This was a slow start for me, but really started pulling me in about a quarter of the way in. I loved how the author brought Polish & Eastern European folklore into this story.  The ending was satisfying. I do wish we spent less time in the capital as I felt that section slowed the story down quite a bit.
