I'm so torn between a 4 star and a 5 star. The writing and story is phenomenal. The idea behind the world building with its settings and magic was by far some of my favorite things. All the twists and turns kept me in my sit. The 4 stars would probably be for the push of romance and the fact that as I've gotten older (I've reread this as least 5 times over 5 year) I've really disconnected with the main protagonist. Which, to be fair, she is 17 and I look back and KNOW I was a fool at that age, and even now. Still one of my favorites, but as I'm writing this years later and after reading Spinning Siliver, it would unjust yo give Uprooted a 5 with how brilliant its sister story is.

The overall story was intricate and engaging, but I had moments where I didn’t feel connected to some of the characters. Loved the world building and metaphors, but struggled with momentum towards the middle. I also didn’t fully grasp why the romantic aspect was necessary for the story. Still worth reading though!
