Aaand we’re done! What a journey that was

This book took me entirely too long to finish, but I trudged through just for those few rare moments that made it worthwhile. This book felt a bit like it was milking a few plot points from previous books and just dragging them along with as much angst and tension as possible. I wish it explored  more new things like when we visited the garnet wizard or when they explore their bonds or Douglas or Heidi or literally anything else other than the deadly battles she keeps going into. I wish I didn’t feel tense the entire time I read this, surely that’s not good for me 😅😅

Divine Fate by Morgan B. Lee

I tried. I really, really did. But this one is just going to have to go into the DNF pile.

I’ve spent two and a half weeks trying to get through this book. For some, that might not be a big deal, but I average about two days per book, just for reference. I’ve picked this up once or twice a day during that whole time, and every single time, I make it no more than 10 pages before I am literally asleep. Middle of the day, evening, middle of the night... it doesn’t matter. I’m out like a light.

With the first three books, there was a steady decline in the quality of the writing (which was already rough) and a clear shift toward smut over substance. That’s fine, everyone has their cuppa tea. The general plot was still compelling enough at the time to hold my attention, even though I rated each book lower than the last.

But here? The power scaling and the plot have just gotten out of hand. I’m simply not interested. The characters started to feel like caricatures of their tropes a book or two ago, and that trend only continues here. On top of that, we’ve now added incessant whining and moody behavior, and not the hot kind of broody moody either. This is the "omg please just get over it already" kind.

While I understand the need for a low moment in the story arc, it’s dragged out far too long, and the answers are withheld in a clumsy and frustrating way. I’m just bored to tears and clearly falling asleep rather than forcing myself to read another page.

I made it to 40% before I let myself DNF this, but honestly? I kind of wish I had given up sooner and just moved on to the next chapter in my reading journey.
